A masseria is a fortified farmhouse commonly found on the estates in the Italian region of Puglia, typically built in the 16th century.

Masseria Restaurant brings a relaxed yet refined Italian dining experience to the heart of the Margaret River wine region. Led by esteemed chef Ben Jacob, Masseria offers a casual Italian-Mediterranean cuisine with a distinctive South West twist.

Sourcing extraordinary Western Australian produce and flavours from Italy’s culinary hotspots, the osteria inspired menu provides a seamless all day dining experience with a strong focus on wine pairing. The wine list, featuring Cherubino’s finest alongside a curated selection of Italian and French wines, complements the flavours on the plate.

Meet the Chef

Ben Jacob

Ben Jacob is the esteemed owner and head chef of Lagoon Yallingup, widely recognised as one of the finest seafood restaurants in the South West. His culinary journey began with an apprenticeship at Balthazar Restaurant, which laid a solid foundation for his future endeavours. Seeking to refine his skills further, Ben ventured to London, where he gained invaluable Michelin Star experience working alongside the legendary Gordon Ramsay at both Boxwood Cafe and Gordon Ramsay at Claridges.

Since embarking on his career as a chef in 2002, Ben has consistently demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and craftsmanship. His high-end training and relentless pursuit of culinary excellence have earned him significant acclaim, not only as a chef but also as a restaurateur.

At Lagoon Yallingup, Ben’s philosophy centers around the use of high-quality ingredients, presented simply yet elegantly. He employs sustainable techniques and draws inspiration from the local landscape, treating it as a rich larder that fuels his creativity. This approach allows him to continually evolve his dishes, ensuring they reflect his deep-seated beliefs, unwavering dedication, and passion for the culinary arts.

Meet the Winemaker

Larry Cherubino

Larry started his career as a horticulturist before diverting to winemaking. He first made a name for himself in South Australia before moving back to Western Australia.

In 2003, Larry began consulting with clients all over the world offering his knowledge and expertise in both vineyards and wineries.

Eventually his years of experience and long-standing relationships with West Australian family vineyards culminated in the establishment of his own wine business – Cherubino.

Family-owned and farm-focused, Cherubino makes uniquely WA wines of great depth, detail and purity, true to their provenance.

Since its establishment in 2005, the Cherubino label has earned a reputation for innovation and success in the Australian wine industry. The success of the business has seen the accumulation of 120ha of vineyards, the appointment of additional winemakers.
